Saint-Petersburg. Red Triangle, Red Banner, Kirov, Nobel, and Raketa factories Baltic Shipyards...Silently, I stepped into these monumental industrial churches, desolate, daylight creeping through the side windows, flooding the space with light. Iron hearts which once throbbed in the city. I searched for the altar where Saint Petersburg labourers once took communion hand in hand. I shot this striking edifice swept away by the fall of the Soviet Union. I read the palms of former workers, hands now resting on the plastic tablecloth of their tiny kitchen; then joined hands with the new generation working in the remaining industrial temples.
